Heads-up: what to steer clear of
- Pickpockets: Barcelona has some of Europe's busiest pickpockets: La Rambla, the Metro, Sagrada Família and beach towels. Never hang a bag on a chair.
- Scam: Watch for distraction tricks, such as someone "helping" clean a stain off your clothes, or a petition, while an accomplice takes your phone.
- Local rules: Swimsuits and bare chests away from the beach can bring fines, and drinking in the street is restricted.

Good to know
- Pickpocketing is common on Las Ramblas and the metro; use a zipped bag.
- Sagrada Família sells out, so book days ahead.
- Lunch is the big meal; menú del día deals are excellent.
