Heads-up: what to steer clear of

  • Scam: Some exchange offices advertise "0% commission" but use terrible rates. Check the amount you'll actually get before handing over cash, or use a bank ATM.
  • Scam: At ATMs and card machines, always choose to be charged in Czech koruna (CZK), not your home currency, to avoid poor conversion rates.
  • Getting around: Avoid hailing taxis in the old town; use ride apps or book through your hotel.

Giro's notes, reviewed October 2026. Things change, so check current advice before you go: Government of Canada travel advisories .

Good to know

  • Cross Charles Bridge at sunrise to have it nearly to yourself.
  • Pay in koruna; decline dynamic currency conversion at card terminals.
  • Public transit tickets must be validated before boarding.
